Biography
Khepera Oluyia Hatsheptwa was
born in Kingston, Jamaica. She was educated at the Edna Manley
College of the Visual and Performing Arts (Jamaica) where she
earned a place on the Dean’s List between academic years
1999 and 2000. Ms. Hatsheptwa subsequently graduated with distinction
from the Painting Department. She later, acquired further tertiary
training in visual arts education at the Mico Teachers’ College
(Jamaica).
Hatsheptwa is the recipient of a Bronze Medal
in the National Fine Arts Competition (Jamaica) in 2000 and
exhibits regularly in Jamaica. She won the Third Prize
in the Mutual Gallery’s 2002 Under Forty Artist of the
Year Competition exhibition, in Kingston (Jamaica) and was
one of 12 artists selected island wide to participate in the
Young Talent exhibition at the National Gallery of Jamaica,
also in 2002.
Other significant exhibitions include the Latin American and Caribbean
Exhibition in Mexico in 2003, where she was one of 5 artists selected to represent
Jamaica; The African Space Programme in 2004 (Jamaica); the Curator’s Eye
in 2005 (Jamaica) and The National Biennial in 2006 (Jamaica).
For the past five years Hatsheptwa has coordinated “Art
on the Water Front” an annual summer programme sponsored
mainly by The Multicare Foundation and The National Gallery
of Jamaica for children and young adults ages 6 to 18
years, held in Kingston Mall Plaza, Kingston Jamaica.
